This past Monday we tested out the new kitchen in our (almost completed) Café Connect. We prepared a Christmas turkey dinner for many of the youth we journey and their families. Over 20 cooks from various ages and walks of life were hard at work. Stories and laughter were heard and lots of Christmas music – a foretaste of what the collective cooking programs will look and sound like with our at-risk youth, offering them the values and experiences of home.
Of course everyone loved the meal and time of sharing around the tables. It was “family time” and everyone was sharing life together. For the youth experiencing homelessness, it was their opportunity to be “home” for Christmas.
John 1:14 reveals that “the Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” (The Message)
As we celebrate this Christmas season, may our focus be the same as Jesus’, to reflect our heavenly Father’s heart in community. May we be generous with our time, presence and resources with those we love and with those in need. Let’s move into the neighbourhood with the love, presence and hope of Jesus so that even more may experience His peace this holiday season.
From the staff at London Youth for Christ, we wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
